| Also in Raiders they used the Serpent-Headed god statue in the pit of snakes aka "well of souls". Not sure if that was representing Apep/Set or not though. | hah I remember these movies, had cheesy fx though I kinda enjoyed them,  the posters were really great -and as usual promised much more than the real movie had-. All the posters had a frazettian style that was very attractive when I was 10 or so  Even the rubber monsters were kinda tolerable. The makeups and designs of the cavemen were really really bad. It was good Milius choose not to use the neanderthals if they would ended looking THAT way... Would have ruined the movie. Also if he would have the balls to include dinosaurs, shit, go imagine Conan vs a rubber lizard suit ala Toho  Though in "Quest for Fire" they used real lions with plastic long fangs as sabretooth and they looked great. Prefer that than any cgi beast. Stop-motion is nice but doesn't work well with real actors fighting them, the dinos allways bited the air and the men allways hitted the air with their weapons for long minutes... What was Milius supposed to do with that HALF THE SKY movie, -supposedly there will be dinosaurs there, right- he thought about stop-motion or what? That Greyskull lol it's kinda cool even when it's so clearly a painting but these movies were so cheap one was allways hoping for whatever they had, even when it was just for a laugh. There was a comic book about a barbarian ala Conan, dated from the early 70's if im not wrong, that had a castle CLONE to Greyskull toy. Look:  The comic is dated 1972. |

| I still think the lose of not having a true effects master, damaged CONAN's production value. Even ILM & VCE's work was limited. But Milius ended up deleting most of the creature/FX scenes or cutting them short as not to be too Sinbadish and then the idea was not to be Raiders of the lost Ark. Then movies like Dragonslayer and Clash of the Titans were coming out, seems again Milius didnt want to the film to look like a ripoff I suppose--but then again Milius also ended up cutting most of the gore out and didnt want it too bloody so go figure. But these B-movies from 70's were surely a big inspiration on Milius |

| Cobb worked in "Raiders" with Stout same time they were starting with Conan. Cobb was credited but not sure if Stout was. Not sure if any of them worked in later Indy films but I don't think so. Right? Cobb also mentioned he was inspired by the aztec serpents designs of Mexico for Thulsa-Doom cult, thought he tried to create an unique style. |

| It seems the WHeel of Pain was also influenced from the Historical Wheel of Death or Breaking Wheel first developed in Greece and later became very popular in Spain, France, Germany and the Norse countries in the Middle Ages. Its more a torturous version of a lazy susan as well. The Breaking Wheel:| Quote: | Breaking on the wheel was a form of torturous execution formerly in use, especially in ancient Greece (where it originated), France, Germany, Sweden, and Russia.
The wheel itself was typically a large wooden wagon wheel, with many radial spokes, but a wheel was not always used. In some cases the condemned was lashed to the wheel and beaten with a club or iron cudgel, with the gaps in the wheel allowing the cudgel to break through. Alternatively, the condemned was spreadeagled and broken on a Saint Andrew's cross consisting of two wooden beams nailed in an "X" shape,[1][2] after which the victim's mangled body might be displayed on the wheel.[3] In other cases, such as the execution of the parricide Franz Seuboldt in Nuremberg, 22 September 1589, a wheel was used as a cudgel: the executioner used wooden blocks to raise Seuboldt's limbs, then broke them by slamming a wagon wheel down onto the limb.[4]
In France the condemned were placed on a cart-wheel with their limbs stretched out along the spokes over two sturdy wooden beams. The wheel was made to slowly revolve, and a large hammer or an iron bar was then applied to the limb over the gap between the beams, breaking the bones. This process was repeated several times per limb. |

| Some symbolist art from the bginning of the 20th century"The way to Hell", Alfred Kubin (1904)   -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This next art is related to lesbian sexuality: "Sleeping Earth and Waking Moon" (Evelyn (Pickering) de Morgan, ca. 1900)  Is reminiscent of the very origin of the character, when she is visited by the vision of a goddess who prohibites her to have any kind of sexual relationship with a man:  The scene was present in the Richard Fleisher's "Red Sonja" movie, and there even some kind of lesbian attraction by the queen Gedren to Sonja is suggested. The character of Sonja isn't described as lesbian, but more as a woman who chooses chastity.
