The answer is Superman

The more I think about the new Conan movie and the more I believe the answer to all problems is Superman Returns.

To go the Superman Returns route.

Which is to say :

- hire a young mainstream director who just loves and respects the original movie, and is a friend of the original director and has got his blessing (maybe Zack Snyder ?)

- hire someone unknown in the main title role, who happens to look like a younger clone version of the original actor, but get a well-known name to play the main villain who will be older than the hero

- do not make a complete reboot of the franchise, but rather some sort of sequel to the originalfilm and pretend the sequels of the original movie never existed !

- hire a composer who is a fan of the original composer and whose score will pay tribute to the score of the original movie which everyone loves and never forgot (obviously, the same main titles opening must be used)

- enhance the special effects with the new CGI technology

- nod to the original movie whenever necessary and possible (cameos, mirror scenes...)

If the rumors are true regardling the " new Arnold", than expect Roland Kickinger as Conan(he's already tapped for the T-800),lol.

That's not a terrible idea, but the only problem I have with that is... (and I mean no disrespect to your suggestion here)... I thought "Superman Returns" sucked.

I do have a great deal of respect for the original "Conan the Barbarian" movie, but I would really like to see them take a fresh approach...One that more faithfully follows REH's stories. There is no greater source material than Robert E. Howard's original stories, so Why not start there? Sure, Howard made no epic, grand scale novel about Conan, and it would be hard to produce a cohesive movie based only on his work, but a new movie could be richly laced with his short stories which could be 'subplots' for a larger theme. In my opinion, the overall theme about Conan (or a Conan trilogy('')) should focus on his rise from the obscurity of barbarism to conquering the Aquilonian throne by his own hand. A lot of crap can fit in between those two extremes, and it wouldn't necessarilly have to be "Conan-Canon", but should certainly be in the true spirit of Conan as envisioned by REH.

Yeah, I mean the overall idea is good, but in practise I doubt it'll work unless you have the same writer/director remaking their movie..and even then thats not a garantee.

SUPERMAN RETURNS certainly did suck! It tried to be Richard Donner's original but failed badly, plus there was no good villain or anything fresh. That Brandon Routh guy did an "OK" job of imitating Reeves, but thats really it at the end, its imitation. On top of that he had that shitty costume, that shit brown-red color instead of his real colors.

That is why I mention Kickinger up there, he's a sure (fan) choice for an Arnold clone which could lure in the Arnold fans(as with Routh doing for Supes). Personally I want either Arnold or someone fresh & new, and unknown...but not a clone Arnold.

Another thing is that bad movies can(and often do)make ALOT of money, while good ones may not fair out so well. If this movie sucks or its "Ok" but makes MONEY everyone will love it regardless...well maybe not everyone

If the Solomon Kane movie or Sonja is anything to go by, dont expect unadulterated HOWARD. Besides, I'm sure they'll want to capitalize on Milius' film to some extent.
