Conan the Adventurer was the name of a popular American animated television series adaptation of the literary character, Conan the Barbarian, created by Robert E. Howard in the 1930s. Produced by Jetlag Productions and Sunbow Productions, the series debuted on October 1, 1992, ran for 64 episodes and concluded one year later, on November 22, 1993.

This 64-episode cartoon was produced by Sunbow Productions. The series was produced in association with Graz Entertainment for the first thirteen-episode season, and Jean Chalopin's Créativité et Développement for the remaining episodes. In its first season, Conan the Adventurer aired in Saturday-morning syndication, airing thirteen new episodes. For its second season, the series aired daily, with the remaining 51 episodes airing over a span of ten weeks and one day.

The series also spawned a small toyline in 1992 created by Hasbro. This first incarnation of Conan in cartoon form performed much better than its sequel, Conan and the Young Warriors, which lasted only 13 episodes.

Conan lived in Cimmeria with his parents throughout his childhood. While out with his grandfather one night on a trek, "fiery tears" or meteors dropped from the skies. Conan collected them and brought them back to his family. Conan's father, the village blacksmith, used the ore from the meteors to forge Star Metal and used it to create various tools and weapons that would never rust or break or dull. He sold them but his finest work, a magnificent sword, he kept for Conan. It was laid in a crypt and covered over with a heavy stone slab. Conan's father told his son that only when he was "man enough" (i.e., strong enough) to push off the stone slab, could he rightfully claim the sword.

Meanwhile, the evil Serpent Man wizard Wrath-Amon learned of Star Metal and that in addition to its strength that it possessed the power to open portals between dimensions. He thus sought Star Metal to release his deity Set from "the Abyss" to which he long ago had been banished by the combined powers of virtually every living wizard then on Earth for trying to enslave the human race. As part of his search, Wrath-Amon sought out Conan's family. Conan's father told Wrath-Amon that he had sold all of the Star Metal but the wizard refused to believe it. (The wizard was right; aside from the sword, it was revealed in a later episode that Conan's father had hidden pieces of Star Metal with other villagers.) Wrath-Amon used the spell of living stone upon Conan's family.

Conan by then had gone to claim his Star Metal sword to attack Wrath-Amon and his followers. When the Star Metal sword got near Wrath-Amon it disrupted his magic and showed his reptilian face. To this, he said, "Those who see the true face of Wrath-Amon must perish!" (this scene is similar to one in the film). Having chased away the wizard, Conan then turned to his family and swore in the name of their god Crom to find a way of releasing them from the spell.

Conan's adventures thus begin as he searches Hyboria looking for a way to cure his family and free the land from Wrath-Amon's tyranny Wrath-Amon's henchmen are also shapeshifting Serpent Men. When Conan's Star Metal sword is close enough to them it broke the spell that disguised them and revealed their true form to be Serpent Men; when Star Metal made contact with the Serpent Men it banishes them to the Abyss with Set. Spies and agents of Set and Stygia, many of them also Serpent Men, were present in many cities, nations and tribes throughout the land in the age of Conan.

As compared with the original Conan stories and the Marvel Comics such as King Conan, Conan Saga, Conan the Barbarian, and Conan the King, the cartoon Conan displays a higher degree of modern morality. While the original Conan is a thief, a killer, and a womanizer, the cartoon Conan has more in common with sword-wielding cartoon characters such as He-Man. At one point he refuses to join a pirate crew on the grounds that it is wrong to steal, he refuses to strike unarmed or defeated opponents, and is in a faithful, monogamous relationship with his girlfriend Jezmine. He is a kind and caring character, albeit a little naive, who stands up for his friends and what he sees to be right and is very respectable.

In the UK Jetix Films has released the complete season one DVD set containing all 13 episodes in their original story order. It is unknown at this time if more sets will follow.

The complete series was released on DVD in Australia in 2004 by Force Entertainment in a series of sixteen single-disc DVD volumes, with four episodes per disc.

The series was also released in America, on two DVD box set volumes. The first, contained 36 episodes on four discs, with the second containing 28 episodes on three discs.

I've just found out about this...missed it in 1992 as i'd stopped watching cartoons by then...
Funny as you get older you go back to hobby's & interests you thought childish before !
Anyway,i've just watched a few episodes of these cartoons & it really actually isn't too bad !!!
Lot's of elements are very similar to CTB movie,etc...
...& this explains the cartoon-ish looking Hasbro figure we have seen with the Atlantean looking sword from 1992.
Not from the film as i first thought!
Which is in the cartoon made from 'Star Metal' by Conan's Father (an asteroid)
There was also a sequel cartoon series called: "Conan and the Young Warriors"

P.S. All these dvds are on ebay & ioffer.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conan and the Young Warriors was a 1994 television cartoon series, produced by Sunbow Entertainment and aired by CBS aired as a spin-off to the popular Conan the Adventurer animated series. The show was meant to take place after the finale of Conan the Adventurer, however it lasted only for one season of 13 episodes.

With Wrath-Amon vanquished and his family returned to life from living stone, Conan thought that his questing had finished. However, now he has to train and protect the "Chosen Ones", a trio of new young warriors who are in possession of magical "star stones", until the time comes in which they are destined to rule over Hyboria.

Aside from Conan's character design which is a carbon copy of the original, this series has a few small links to its predecessor. Occasionally, a piece of background music mirroring the theme to Conan the Adventurer (the trumpet line) is used. At one point, a character uses Zulu's trademark sign of Jhebbal Sag to summon animals to help them. Conan once seeks out a wizard he claims "Grey Wolf of Xanthus" told him about. He also mentions that he once knew a firebird, and claims that he ate him (saying that as joke). The fact that Conan's sword is made of metal from the stars is mentioned several times, a reference to the original series in which a major theme was that Conan's sword was made of a magical star metal.

The series has been released on two DVD discs by Unique Vision Entertainment.

Well I think everybody else does know about these cartoons, indeed. Yeah they were aired on 1992 or so in Spain too, and let me tell you the spanish voices made the series worse than it actually was.

Because, hm, let me tell you... it WAS that bad. Shocked

Maybe if I wasn't specting Conan to crush some enemies, and see their bloody bodies cut into pieces before him, then grab some whore's round ass and listen her lamenting and moaning all night long... I would't have been so dissapointed by THAT retarded cartoon.... puker

...from wich I didn't miss an episode, on the other hand. Laughing
