In the scene where Conan practises with his sword on the beach, why does he look at his hand?

IMO, because he was recovering from having been crucified (spikes driven through his wrists), & he was pondering how his hands would hold up in battle.

I have always thought it was him just digesting what Thulsa Doom had told him about the riddle of steel. I always saw that scene as him doing a lot of inward thinking. the riddle of steel, the healing of his hand, the determination to go back and finish what he started. There seems a grim determination to his kata, and then deep reflection on the hand that performed it.

That scene was directly inspired(or taken) from Marlon Brando's One-Eyed Jacks (1961), which the characters shooting hand was smashed, and then once he recovered he staired at his hand and thought revenge.

Going by the filmed movie...Thorgrim was crushing and breaking Conan's hand with his ironboots, as he torments Conan with Rexor keeping the father's sword near with Conan trying to reach for it. Only some parts of this scene/storyarc is in the released print via wide-screen mainly. We're also forced to believe that somehow Doom recognized the boy which is why Rexor was using that particular sword there. As according to that scene, Doom must of also been psychic or remembered beforehand(Vader's Sorcerer clairvoyance?) that he killed this man's parents, before even Conan spoke about it. Then again couldve been just a coincidence as it was Rexor's personal sword by that time, but this doesnt explain why its hung in Doom's chamber in the scripts as a collectors item, and also Rexor changed outfits by the time of the procession to the torture..he was in regular relaxed attire.

interesting, I don't know about the rexor taunting thing... I'll have to rewatch. I just thought that Rexor had the sword because Doom gave it to him at the start of the film. i saw it as his from the begining and didn't look beyond that. scratch

I have yet to track down an actual copy of the script. I can't trust ebay one to be proper. I figured there was time between the capture and torture enough for Rexor to change. maybe even days. I don't recall anything that implied doom knew who conan was. conan states that doom killed his parents and people, and then doom recalls it.... scratch

As I said, I really have to rewatch that scene. I don't recall the princess there at all.
