| I rather liked some the early casting choices or other fan favorites or possibilities. I wouldve liked their roles more flushed out too, with maybe Rick Baker doing the special make-up effects. Sean Connery as King Kull in flash back or reworked King Osric: Persis Khambatta as Yasmina Christopher Lee as Thulsa Doom Jack Palance as Conan's father Lou Forrigno as Brak/Borg: Maron Brando as The Wizard of the Mounds Ken Waller as Red Hair Kareen Abdul Jabar as Yaro Sho Kosugi as Subotai Hulk Hogan as Rexor or Janus: Andre the Giant as Thorgrim/ Neanderthal Brute:

| Ok, but what bout Conan? And Marlon as the wizard?¿?¿?¿?¿?¿? Not sure about that at all. He could fit as Conan, in his old times. But as the wizard?¿?¿?¿?¿ Marlon Brando being afraid of a bunch of FX spirits??? Brando was a man of action, good with words but in any time he would stop talking and DO his thing. His character of Julius Caesar was hardly believable. He was great but he was not a phylosopher. Never could have made a Hamlet, for example. In the first chapter he would have killed his mother, his husband and the whole court. He would have been a great Conan, though. | |

| Brando, was very reclusive and madly eccentric, so I think couldve worked well as kinda more anti-hero Ben Kenobi type and a better opposite to a more evil and powerful Thulsa Doom. If John Houston played the part, he wouldve been too King Osricish I think, delivering lines so over dramatically. Also the script version of the Wizard was different than the movie version. Angelica Houston though i think couldve played a good Salome/Taramis: | |

| Hm, I could see Brando much more as Thuls-Doom in some kind of coronel Kurtz kind of way... But I still think he in his younger "Train Called Desire" or "The Wild One" would have been a GREAT Conan. He had Irish blood. Also his violent and cuasi-animal energy I think is pretty close to a barbarian description. -(Reason why he doesn't really fit as Julius Caesar)-. He was cute and handsome but also tough and violent. Women loved him because of this mix. So he would have been a nice Thulsa-Doom, I guess... But who would have been fucking Conan, then? I don't see Arnold as his nemesis at all. Brando would have eaten him alive. (In more than a way) I guess we have the Brando's Thulsa-Doom version in "Apocalypse now", as both characters -and scripts- share some relation. Oh, and I am very curious, in what is the wizard different, in the script? | |

| About casting, the biggest mistake they made IMO is the charakter of Malak in Conan the destroyer. Okay, this isn`t really a casting mistake, because it wasn`t the fault of the actor. But the guy is just annoying from the start to the end, and the german synchro made it even worse. At the end, where Malak hit the already dead Dagoth with his dagger, he says: "Malak, conqueror of the dragon". In the english version he doesn`t say anything. Oh, man. | |

| Conan The Destroyer is a whole other breed man, lol.
Well, Tracy Walter as Malak was pure cheese, as that is what the part called for. In the script the character of Malak is a little more tolerable and likable. I think they had some old guy and Danny Devito lined up for that role even.
What I loved best about Walter was his hair, he looked a radiation victim, bald patches all over.

| Sure, I know that Conan the Barbarian is an epic movie and The Destroyer just a rather unknown, little bit trashy, sequel. But still, couldn`t hold my comment back. From the original Conan, I can`t think of a better cast. Rexor was played by Ben Davidson, right? But who are Brak and Yaro? | |

| Yeah, Ben Davidison, he was pretty good. This topic was mainly fan fun and bordom. Arnold I think was surely great in the role, maybe a more muscled Mel Gibson wouldve been good too back then. But I think Arnold wouldve looked good with blackhair, he usually keeps it brown or sometimes he dyes it reddish or blondish. In CTD his wig was a brown-blond and he looked awful. | |

Brak and Yaro were two characters from early versions of the script, later transformed into Rexor and Thorgrim.
Brak was some kind of neanderthal or mutant, follower of Doom, later Throgrim.
Meanwhile Yaro, later Rexor, was the high priest of the Tower of the Snake. In the comic book adaptation he appears as a black man.

| Brak was Rexor in more dark and hulking brute form, later was split into bits of Yaro and Thorgrim for the movie. Spaghetti Western veteran Aldo Sambrall was to have played Yaro, but was fired sometime during production by Milius, and his shots deleted or refilmed with Ben Davidson . The part called for a black guy however in the script(s), i think Frank McRae was originally cast but dont know what happened there and it switched to Sambrall.
According to William Stout, Schwarzenegger didnt want Lou Ferrigno in the movie and Milius did, and you can see that as the part of Brak was written with him in mind. Figures even back then Arnold was an egotistic ass. Lou battling Arnold wouldve put him to shame I think he feared. Glad he was in the new HULK film and did his voice and roar, classic stuff there and very good film.
Thorgrim was invented for the production movie, was missing in the scripts.
