"CLASH OF THE TITANS" was a film released in 1981. Besides "EXCALIBUR" that very same year, and "CONAN THE BARBARIAN" (which was initially going to be also released in 1981) inaugurated the saga of "Sword and Sorcery" movies of the 80's.
If one wants to, it's not hard to find some similitudes:
The film told the story of PERSEUS and his quest to rescue the princess ANDROMEDA of his fate: being devoured by the sea monster KRAKEN.
A REMAKE of the movie is already being filmed, to be released in 2010.
Is being directed by Louis Leterrier (Transporter 2, The Incredible Hulk)... Surely it won't be too original, as today's Hollywood directors appear to be nothing less than standard and impersonal drones to do no more than organizing the shooting of the script the producers demand.
Good thing is the script is written by Lawrence Kasdan who wrotte the screenplay for lovable movies like "The Empire Strikes Back", "Return of the Jedi", and "Raiders of the Lost Ark"
The protagonist (PERSEUS) will be Sam Worthington:
The rest of the (surprisinly great) casting includes Liam Neeson (ZEUS), Ralph Fiennes (HADES) and Danny Huston (POSEIDON).
Plus, the actor Tammer Hassan is going to appear as GOD OF WAR. (???)
The movie is being shot in the Spanish island of TENERIFE, which belong to CANARIAS ISLANDS, that include volcanic landscapes and prehistoric jungles. (The Harryhausen movie "One million years B.C." with Rachel Welch was filmed there).
This is a pic of a set in TENERIFE:
Which kinda reminds me of this set built by Emilio Ruiz del Rio for "Red Sonja":
But... well, one must wonder WHAT'S THE FUCKING POINT in doing a remake of this one? See, the movie wasn't truly very good, but it became a classic just because of the FX. The classical "slow motion" technique is a delight to watch, even not being perfect at all, and so. But it's that "classic artesan touch" the FX have which make it worth watching... So, what's the point, remaking it with CGI? Could they be as creative and sweet as HARRYHAUSEN's works?
This Hollywood remaking fever is absolutely
