What about the unreleased tracks of Conan the Destroyer? Empty
PostSubject: What about the unreleased tracks of Conan the Destroyer?   What about the unreleased tracks of Conan the Destroyer? EmptySat 5 Jun - 6:19

In the Conan the Barbarian "ultimate edition" OST (apparently unofficial and fan-made), we have all sorts of unreleased tracks that were used for the FIRST film , and that's really cool.

On the other hand, the 3-4 additional tracks used for the SECOND film (destroyer) are NOT present, and all we have is the official CTD soundtrack in CD #2 of the "ultimate collection".

Question:
WHO made this compilation? HOW did they get these unreleased tracks from the first film (I guess they had access to the original recordings ?)
and WHY didn't they bother to do the same with the unreleased track of Conan The Destroyer?

I mean, if someone's interested to the point of having every bit of music from the first opus, why not give the second one the same treatment?

Anyone here willing to give me some info?

I am willing. But I don't have it. How about that.

I can throw you a cheap maybe, though. Maybe... the unreleased tracks of CTD were just tracks from CTB. The whole CTD movie was full of re-used CTB songs, still I don't know if re-arranged or somewhat different. They could perfectly be included in a "DESTROYER-Completist" compilation, though.

About WHO made that compilation... truth is I cannot help you there either, but yeah It was someone with access to original recordings but not necessarily just from the record company wich did the Poledouris album, but also from the soundtrack of the film itself. The film-soundtrack is the track of ambient sounds and music that plays with the movie, minus the dialogues (wich goes in a different track). If you listen to some unreleased tracks from the completist bootleg, you will find some of the tracks incluse ambient noises and sounds -for example the Witch-Wolf music, wich includes some wind and eerie sounds, and also fire IIRC. --- This is not uncommon in soundtracks, a bootleg of the "BladeRunner" music exists and it's considered the most complete of all: it's the film-soundtrack, the entire movie sound and music, without the dialogues.

Bootlegs with unreleased tracks are usually full of tracks "stolen" from the record studio where the bands/artists recorded their albums. Maybe a worker there, records some rare stuff and then releases it in a bootleg. Some bootlegs are made by compilations though, that means the guy who releases the bootleg is not the one who "stole" the tracks, he just compiled them from several different sources and put them together on a single cd. I suspect this was the case with the "CONAN Ultimate Edition" record. Therefore, to know WHO did the record or WHERE all the tracks came from is really really hard to say.

Thanks for the info FT , you're thinking exactly as me: someone got his hands on the original studio tapes, I can't see how otherwise.

Odd the authors of the compilation didn't credit themselves !

If you listen closely to the music in CTD, you'll notice two UNHEARD pieces merged together :

- just after Conan accepts Zula to follow them on their quest as she swears allegiance to him (having challenged Bombaata on purpose to prove her skill), they ride through a village and through a valley. This music was not in Conan the Barbarian.

You can hear it at 00:46 here:

I think this title is really worth it.

Other than that, effectively, most other unreleased-on-the-official -Destroyer-OST fragments come from the first opus.

There is a CTD Ultimate Edition with all the music from the movie. I downloaded it a few months back.

Yeah, some tracks are taken from the movie with everything else edited out but the music. However other themes seem like somehow they got some studio access or were able to get a hold of some actual unreleased music some way, lol.

Soyfriki, you are mistake, there is only a Conan the BARBARIAN ultimate edition OST.

The only pieces that are edited without the voices and FX (or in some cases the original tapes) come from Conan the Barbarian film.

All we have from Conan the Destroyer is the official OST in CD #2 of the ultimate edition, that and the piece "chambers of mirrors, crystal palace" on CD #3 possibly a reprisal by another orchestra as a tribute (such as for Anvil of Crom) OR simply a slower alternate version.

But NO bonuses from the Destroyer, I repeat again, only from the Barbarian.

I'm still waiting for those few extra tracks from the destroyer, by Crom, Mitra and Set!

I just notice that the authors of the compilation took out the ORIGINAL OST "crystal palace" (around 6 mn) piece in CD2 to replace it with "crystal_palace_atm" (around 7 mn), which i almost the same version as in CD3. The cowbells sound harsher in the latter two versions and the rythm is slower as well.

This version isn't really "ultimate". Also the 'adventures of Conan' 5 last pieces are just the split parts of 'Sword and Sorcery spectacular' suiteI.

I guess they did just what the hell they wanted, these guys.
Well at least we have some unreleased tracks from CTB, and that's great.

Why would they? Their work t's illegal. In any case they would be using nicknames, or maybe a "bootleg company" name.

Yeah that's a neat piece. It should be included.

I realized the CTB melodies are re-worked, same composition but slightly different. Surely Poledouris wanted audiences to remember his previous work to relate it to the main character (and help create the illusion he indeed was the same character of CTB, when in truth he clearly was his retarded twin Mr. Green ).

Still, for a commercial release, It's pretty understandable they chose not to include all the score wich is the same compositions from CTB. They didn't want buyers to feel fooled by a rip-off of a soundtrack they already had.

In terms of completism, though, those should be included in a true ultimate edition, imo.

----------------------------

About the origin of the tracks, well... Who knows. Maybe the guy who made that bootleg obtained the tracks from other bootlegs and re-recorded them all together. Original tapes ain't that easy to obtain unless you work on the record company and made a copy for yourself at night. Mr. Green This bootleg's tracks come surely from many different sources.

What it's possible is the guy himself had access to the film-sound-track and cutted and edited the parts where music was played, and recorded them on the cd. That means the guy had a early original copy of the film, one that didn't have the dialogues added to the sound-track yet. This film wouldn't be easy to obtain, though -so he had to be a collector or a person with access to very rare film material-.

Or maybe that film-sound-track was taken from the sound edition studio where the film was edited. In that studio they surely had the original track of sound and music without the dialogues. But, scratch well, it means a guy coming inside that particular studio and go searching for their 1980 files... in case those still exists...

Another possibility is the guy was not from USA but from some other country and worked on a movie dubbing studio where there's a copy of the original film-sound-track without the dialogues to work on, and decided to take a copy of it to home and edite it.

I had made a thread a year ago or so on a possible CONAN THE DESTROYER Extended Score and I did find some stuff in text about it. I mean it was only logical if one existed for the 1st movie then one must exist for the 2nd, well alteast in theory right?! So my friend did a search and it turned out it was available over the net indeed, and obtained it and then sent me a copy too. So we now own it. So yeah, it does exist.

You gotta net search and get lucky.

Here is a the opening track to CONAN THE DESTROYER someone did. It came out pretty good.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5i9eYy2y_o&feature=related

I always liked this theme, was very heroic and fitted Conan well in his scenes.

The EXACT name of the score I was looking for is called:
"Conan the Destroyer COMPLETE SCORE" , 34 titles which are those listed by Soyfriki (by the way thanks for this same list ! )

Google only that title.

The youtube clip I posted on this thread contains part of track 11 (amazonian/castle of Thoth Amon).

A shame Poledouris didn't make a longer piece based on track 17's theme (through the woods)

Track 14 (underwater passage/hall of crystals) has a very mysterious feel to it.
Strange it wasn't present in the official OST.

You are welcome, pal . I only hope that one day these soundtracks (specially CTB) get a proper complete and remastered release.
