At 00:23 on this trailer you can see the same scene with Bombaata but without the red and dark tinting which appears in the theatrical release print of the movie's opening sequence:

The same thing appears at 00:43 with another of the Queen's elite guardsman.

I guess that means Jack Cardiff did not use filters during the shooting of that scene, and the color effect was later added during post-production...
