Zula & Akiro returning in Conan III...

Hold your horses! I mean, they were supposed to return in some unproduced third movie planned at some point by Dino De Laurentiis in the mid-80's...

Excellent find. Akiro always coming back and being held over way into 1992's CONAN III by Pogue(whom never read Wagner's script supposedly according to an interview) and later in 2001 by Milius is interesting. Seems they all were bent on making some Pirate and ship story, supposedly William Stout unproduced script was to as well.

I live in North Carolina through the summers, nice countryside, very nice and mountainous and forested.. has a nice feel and look. Mann's "Last of the Mohicans" was filmed there(supposed to have been taken place in upstate New York and can pass for it easily). So I dont think the location wouldve hurt the movie, it can pass as Pictland.

Dune was released at the end of 1984 (December). And this other article, which states that Wagner "is writing the Conan III screenplay for producer Dino De Laurentiis", is dated from January 1985:

OK small timeline. Wagner seems to make it like its post-Production of DUNE and at the time of its release. So we figure the CONAN III of his in one variant or another was probably floating around by the time CONAN II and Dune were hitting the theaters.

Stout's "Conan and the Eye of Death" is dated as being 1983(no known month that I know of). So these scripts were surely being produced at around the same time for a back to back sequel expected back then to hit the theater at around 1985 or '86(Sonja timeframe). Arnold also was wanting outve his 5 picture contract by this time and made "Raw Deal" as an end picture and just popping up as a favor for Dino for the Sonja picture.

Dune only made a little more than 2 million dollars over CTD, which production value was diminished in favor of DUNE's production. Both movies combined, it only made as much if not a some more than as CONAN THE BARBARIAN's domestic gross back in May 1982( $38 million),lol.
