In MightyMcT 's interview of Renato Casaro, Mighty cites 'Iron Master' and it's poster, but Casaro says that he has no idea what he's talking about.
Probably because the poster isn't from Casaro but from Jaime Brocal Remohi, especially the woman's style, the hero's facial charcateristics, the style and tone of the colours and paintbrush strokes, and the overall Frazetta tribute (or ripoff) scenes in the background (Remohi already did one of the earliest Death Dealer 'tributes' in one of his Taar covers) .

Completely coherent with the art he did for the spanish series 'Taar' .

And if it isn't Remohi neither, it damn sure is in his very own style!

Are you certain?

On a side note, who did this poster?

The link is long dead, Cromulus.

Do you have a mirror?

Anyways, Casaro's official movie poster gallery doesn't have Iron Master, nor does it mention it.
Apparently his site seems to have all the art he did for VHS jackets and movie posters, even some unpublished art .

And Yes, Cromulus, I'm positive for Brocal Remohi's style.
But errare humanum est , I could be wrong and it happens very often that some unknown italian or spanish artist may have ripped off Remohi's style, the same way some have riped off Boris Vallejo's or Frazetta's and so on.

An example:
wrongsideoftheart.com/wp-content/gallery/posters-s/sorceress_1982_poster_02.jpg

Notice the guy on the right, ripped off a Boris poster, the artist redrew it mirrored ,replacing the monster with a harpy:
imaginistix.com/details.cfm?Id=779

Now back to Remohi vs Casaro:
Here are some Remohi covers,
bedetheque.com/Couvertures/taartome12.jpg
bedetheque.com/Couvertures/taar09_21022002.jpg
bedetheque.com/Couvertures/taar10_21022002.jpg

To see how he drew buxom barbarian blondes and brunettes, just google a B&W gallery (drawings which are compiled in his "BattleAx, the art of Brocal Remohi" book )

Truth is, that movie poster artists ripped aech other off all the time, so unless someone manages to ask the production or even the company who released the DVD (if there si one)...

Cromulus, here's the correct link for your flick you were asking for "Sword of the barbarians" aka "Sangraal" :

The "Iron Master" poster was done by Casaro (proof is the original artwork is signed by him). End of story.

"Sword of the Barbarians" poster was done by Enzo Sciotti.

MightyMcT, no need to get mad,
I'm comparing what Casaro said to you personally in his interview, literally:

Quote :
"- Did you ever recycle any of your unused CONAN concepts when working on later posters (possibly the IRON MASTER one)?
- No, I never "recycled" a not used idea for another movie poster. I don't even remember the IRON MASTER poster you are talking about."

from
conancompletist.com/EN/casaro.htm

I don't call that end of story, moreover, I contacted people who have the poster and the signature isn't present on the poster apparently, some say unreadable and partially cut.

How come the poster isn't present on Casaro's gallery ? He compiled each and every cover he did, from the lousiest z movie to Bud Spencer to Conan the Barbarian and Rambo.
I'm not here to argue, but to confront facts , interview and information retrieved on official sites.

Please post a scan of the signature if you say it's him for sure, people believe only when they see, then it will be a true 'end of story' .
Perhaps Casaro has memory problems and lost all trace of it? In this case, he and his official web gallery are misleading us?

For Sciotti, you're talking about the one with the strange sword and the red background, that is effectively his style. this time his website doesn't have it for a valid reason: the gallery isn't ready and completed yet.

This you can trust:

Renato Casaro ,Conan the Barbarian but NOT Iron Master ? 380255

Renato Casaro ,Conan the Barbarian but NOT Iron Master ? 380257

Renato Casaro ,Conan the Barbarian but NOT Iron Master ? 380258

Signature (*on the original artwork*) is cropped, but it's Casaro's.

The guy did hundreds of movie posters (more than 800!), he can't honestly remember each and every one of them.

Only a *selection* of his work is shown on his official site, A LOT is still missing (especially from his early days work in the Western & Peplum genres...).

And regarding E. Sciotti, I was talking about the Sword of the Barbarians movie poster (as asked by Cromulus), and NOT about the Iron Master one "with the strange sword and the red background."

Maybe you should read more carefully?

thanks MightyMcT, at least you showed proof, instead of staying MUTE like Renato Casaro on the subject. Perhaps he's ashamed of having ripped so many Frazetta pieces in his composition and denied simply doing it, that's the only explanation that comes to mind.

What else could it be? If the painter himself plays dumb... I honestly do not think he simply "forgot" it, especially when there are so many reworked parts coming from FF's paintings, such a tribute cannot be "forgotten" as easily.
What counts is the quality of the artwork, who cares what Casaro said, artists are a bit special ... and now the problem is resolved thanks to your scan.

The latter I can trust, lad !

ps: By the way, all scans available on the net , even cropped do not have the signature as clear as yours, even when zommed in or when the pic's details are further refined to determine the signature.
Did you can your own poster? Or did you have access to a better scan, if yes please post the link, it's worth the while I guess!

I did not scan the poster, I only scanned a reproduction of Casaro's original artwork (which was published in some French mag back in the early 80's). I guess the signature was lost when the artwork was reframed by the art director for the issued movie poster...

Quote :
The use of prominent artists dates back to the beginning of the movie industry. Unfortunately, however, the early movie studios in the US refused to allow the artists to sign their work. The studios would sometimes go so far as to direct the artists to not "paint" in their typical manner, not wanting artists to be recognized by their particular style. This means that for many years, notable artists have provided fantastic artwork that in some cases to this day still goes unrecognized. Thankfully, this is not the case today, where it is common practice for artists to sign their artwork so that their signatures can then be reproduced on the posters. Still a great deal of very nice artwork goes unrecognized because of the signature being cropped or some part of the credits covering it. (source)

A rare find , this magazine with the uncropped Casaro painting!!! Could you scan it entirely please? I'm sure other members would appreciate it too!

If ever you manage to dig out a HQ scan of the following rare Conan poster from Casaro, it would be cool too!
