| If anyone has pics of Conan in desert attire (i.e. turban, robes, atop a camel...whatever) could you post them here for me? I want to do a project, but need some reference pics and have had trouble finding pictures of Conan dressed this way. Anything from a painting to a comic book frame or cover would help. Thanks | |

| Hey Maelstrom. Chris Quilliams' cover for one of the Mongoose RPG books: Road of Kings. No turban, sadly. | |

| Ey, man, if you are talking about comic related images, i remember he wears a turbant in some story... The comic was released in some very early Savage Sword of Conan magazine, in B/W and featured a hidden Conan who joined the zuagirs, and didn't revealed his true personality until the middle of the story, when he took the control of some army. Shit, this is all i can actually remember, the artist was Buscema and the inker I just don't remember but he was not Alcala or some of the common ones like DeZuñiga... The script was surely by Roy Thomas and i don't know if it actually adapted some Reh tale but i think it's pretty possible. I wish i could give more info to you but I am really trying to remember... At the end of the story, 3 bald dark magizians -who appeared to be aliens- created a nuclear explosion with a sacred gem with egg shape. There was also a hot chick, blonde, who was sold as a slave. Of course Conan frees her and becomes his mate. I remember some other savage sword stories with Conan wearing oriental dressing... Maybe you should try to download SWOCTB magazines and take a look. Right now i remember a Conan wearing some kind of arabian vest. I can remember he is in some kind of oasis, inside the tent of an arabian bandit. that was in another early savage sword magazine. Sorry i can't give you more accurate info, man. | |

| The first story I was talking about was actually a REH tale, but not about Conan but about "EL BORAK" called -The Abode of the Damned-. It appeared in Savage Sword 11. The artist was Buscema and the inker, an unknown guy called Yong Montano. Also in the tale -At the Mountain of the Moon-God- he wears the arabian vest. It's not the comic I told you about the oasis, but I guess it's the same dress. It's in Savage Sword 3. The artist was Pablo Marcos. And you could also like this another one, -The Horror from the Red Tower-. In this one Conan I don't remember if he is wearing any kind of dressing but the typical cromagnon underwear... BUT the story itself happens in the desert and there are a lot of camels and that stuff. Also, the main character -who, surprise, it's not Conan- wears desert dressing. It's in Savage Sword 21.The artist is Buscema and I'm not sure but I think the inker could be Rudy Nebres. I guess you can donwload all these SWOC magazines using some program... If you can't find them, I will try to download for you some other day, whn I can use internet in my own house. I moved recently and i'm using the computer of my sister at this moment. An image of Conan in the desert. (The dressing of Conan is crap, but I guess the ambient is what you are looking for). Also maybe you would like these images, not Conan but Pulp fiction anyway. Maybe you could try a bearded Conan. I'm sick of the stereotypical image of Conan shaved like a baby... If you are living in the desert, are you going to shave your fucking face each morning?? I also have a Savage Sword scanned comic with Conan wearing a turbant that maybe you like. I have it in another computer and maybe i can post some images another day. Hope it was useful. | |

| Flaming Turd and Cromulus...
Many thanks guys, all of those images are great! In answer to wether I want comic book images or painted ones, either are fine. I'm not looking for one specific image, I'm just looking for some inspiration for a future project, so if you guys find more, please keep em' coming! I need to reread some of Howard's stories that have him in that kind of environment, I think "People of the Black Circle" and "The Hand of Nergal" is set in the desert, if you guys have any suggestions for reading on this specific subject, feel free to let me know. Thanks again.

| Man, you should just try to read the stories of REH about "EL BORAK" as they all are sited in Arabia. I posted you the cover of two of those. I guess they would not hard to find depeding where you live... But if you have patience you will find them online searchirg thought the web in some fan page, i'm sure. Mmmm, BLACK COLOSSUS was set in the desert, also... I remember Conan got an armour from the real palace he was hired to become a general, and he was described as looking like a Greek statue or something. But yeah, the set was in the desert and i also remember the description of the two armies at battle. The main evil foe even rided a black camel. A WITCH SHALL BE BORN was also set in the deset. There was Conan crucified. I guess you also should check out this comic drawn by Richard Corben... It's heroic fantasy set in the Arabian myths world. The ambient could also inspire you... " New Tales of the Arabian Nights" i think it's the english title. Also maybe you like this, it's an arabian palace builded in the south of Spain in the Middle Ages, called the ALHAMBRA. Tons of Savage Sword comic frames were drawn copying photos of the Alhambra. http://images.google.es/images?um=1&hl=es&q=alhambra Just wondering, what is your project gonna be, more or less? | |

I would really like to do something different, and I have yet to see any one do a custom of Conan in that kind of get-up. Just thought it would be interesting. What I would really like to do is have an accompanying camel that he could be posed on as well.

Yep, I've got a couple of Conan things in the works. I've really been sidelined by other stuff lately, but hopefully I will have some new stuff posted soon.

| Turd, have you checked his King Arthur concept art?
http://www.chrisachilleos.co.uk/main/film/concept/Kingarthur/kingarthur.html
The Excalibur sword is CONAN reminiscent.
*This 1989 one is interesting too, sorta like the Father's sword :

http://www.chrisachilleos.co.uk/main/gallerie/fantasy/images/broken_sword.jpg Yes, no doubt the excalibur is an Atlantean Sword, has everything, same hilst design -through different decoration- same ricasso and even has runes in the blade... (By the way, not celtic but VIKING ) I guess you already have but take a look at the book covers and you will find amazing artworks there -specially that Almuric one.
