Dargonslayer is still one of the better fantasy movies ever made. The hero was very Skywalkerian and lackluster which probably doomed the movie. If they wouldve made it more "Conan-like" they couldve had a awesome picture. I love that movie though, I wouldnt mind seeing a sequel, and hope for less CGI crap.

I just wonder why concept art for CONAN 1 & 2 is so scarce for? We would think they kept files and folders, but oddly all we have is drips and drabs. Even their official sites are lacking. *Think Cobb has a website now.

I like Stout's Hercules there. I would want to see a real legit hercules movie made and authentic.
Which reminds me, I want to check out this comic. It pretty damn accurate armour wise to..see the Mycenaean Dendra style armour on one of them there.

The man declared being amazed by Spain's infrastructure:
Quote :
I visited Spain (Barcelona & San Sebastian) during Franco's reign in 1970, then lived in Madrid in 1980 while designing the "Conan the Barbarian" movie. So it had been 28 years since my last trip there.
A lot had changed. In 1970 Spain used to be sort of like Europe's Mexico; a cheap and sunny place to head for your vacation. Not any more! Since joining the EU Spain has changed dramatically. It is now a first rate world class nation. Its travel infrastructure (airlines, trains, buses, highways, subways) is much better than that of the United States. The treatment we got on our bus trips was better than treatment in First Class on any American airline. Free movies, meals and drinks on a bus! Nicer seats, too! Everywhere we went it felt like the decisions the Spanish government made were based upon the question, "What would be the best thing to do in regards to our people?" (as opposed to the US, where the question seems to be "What would be the best thing to do in regards to our corporations?").
Well, dunno what to say, really... I think none of us here really think that the government ever thinks "What would be the best thing to do in regards to our people?", honestly
Also, a lot of spanish people really worship USA way of being. Last government before the actual, for example. Well, it's good to know things from other people who come here and see things that we can't see because we have assumed them as common. It only happens when traveling.

With which film directors would you most like to work?
WILLIAM STOUT: Clint Eastwood, Terry Gilliam, Peter Jackson, Ron Howard, Guillermo del Toro, Robert Rodrigues, Quentin Tarentino, Kevin Costner (I nearly worked with Kevin and production designed “Dances With Wolves”; my Antarctica painting exhibition took precedence instead), the Wachowski Brothers. If you want to see what a movie would look like if I directed it, watch “Road to Perdition”. That’s exactly how I visually tell stories and compose shots. “The Hitcher” (which I storyboarded) is very close to my visual style (I wouldn’t have killed the girl, though).

The white background surrounding the sabretooth tiger there looks like a hardboiled egg, even the yellow/red-orange looks like the yoke and a bite/tool mark exposing it.

on Monday, June 23rd, William Stout said
I designed The Predator (My friend Rick Baker brought me in on this. I was really happy to get the gig; not so much because it was designing a monster but because it was my first work on a union film, a nice breakthrough, career-wise). Stan's people built the suit based on my designs and plussed it by adding that cool four-pronged mouth idea.

Yeah. Thing is Stout made the final design from which the very same suit was based on but he wasn't credited -you can read everywhere the designer was Stan Winston or "Winston's studio" at most. Maybe because they are refering to the head (and specifically the complex mouth which was the most characteristic thing of the bug) which was designed by Stan Winston. But it's weird Stout wasn't credited for his work in the body (and surely the gadgets as they were inluded in the suit as one piece)

And I think RON COBB also was involved at some point. So, it was like a hundred of artists and designers involved in the design and developement of the creature. You are right, would be great to know the whole story of the design -so many stupid books of all these franchises and none of them any good...-

I received and email from DONALD F. GLUT
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_F._Glut
http://www.donaldfglut.com/credits.html
who wrote some episodes of the cartoon DINO-RIDERS of the 80's. I asked him is Stout was actually involved in the project and he confirmed:
Quote :
I think Bill was one of the designers. Comic-book artist Frank Brunner also worked on that show.
Frank Brunner worked in some Conan comics (I think the excellent "Scarlet Cidatel") and also was one of the several artist Milius had in mind to work of the CTB movie before Stout was finally hired.
BTW, Donald F. Glut also was the writter of the first minicomis that came with the first "Masters of the Universe" figures in 1981. He was the one who conveived He-Man as a barbarian (forget about the Prince Adam stuff from the later cartoon).

Thats interesting, Turd. Dino-Riders was a decent series and the toys for their time were high quality.
Frank Brunner is also a Frazetta fan? His female form drawing seems to indicate that I guess.

I guess Brunner likes Frazetta very much, yes. But from Stout to Frank Cho, who doesn't?
