| So do you guys just like the Conan films & those kind of fantasy sword & sorcery genre/type movies themselves? ...Or are you Arnie fans too? Myself- I'm an Arnie fan...Always loved those action films in the 80's. A great time for Arnie,Sly & co... I think the role of Conan was perfect for Arnold Schwarzenegger because of the charisma & charm he showed in 'Pumping Iron'... They just don't make films like those any more... Everything seems so politically correct these days. ...& there aren't any action 'Superstar' actors like back then either...or are there? ...Expendables has a good group of those stars. Whatever happened to the Heroes ??? |

| Me a fan of well-made movies wich include a lot of Arnold's there. What happened to the heroes? Well, today it's thought that heroes must be guys who audience can identify themselves with. Reason why they changed Arnie into Matthew Broderick in Predators. And also changed Arnie into a pretty-boy surfer for the new Conan. It's odd. And fashionable. Look, today there are several movies with female protagonists who kick ass. Like "Kill Bill" and stuff. That wasn't so normal 20, non even 15 years back. Ripley on Alien was the precedent, then there were tons of "Ripley" like characters. Today it's normal. Guess this feminism thingy has a lot to do with it: machos aren't likable today, but females who kick butts are instead. If you take a look a the male heroes today, they are kinda soft and sick: Broderick, the new Conan.... these are made for the female audiences. So, the female mentality has absolutely taken the media. The change was needed, I suppose, since the 80's was so macho-driven. But I don't enjoy today's films that much. Another change is needed. It will happen, eventually. That, or human's extinction. Whatever comes first- | |

| Women rule the world these days...? Wouldn't have happened in Conan's day !!! Yes,you're right Turd,i think a lot of it is to do with trends/fashions of the day... With Arnie & Sly back in the 80's people suddenley got a lot more health conscious. They started working out & getting fit. Bodybuilding wasn't just for freaks anymore then. Have you seen the film called: "Bigger,Faster,Stronger" It's quite a funny look at how these 80's action hero guys changed the era. & how steroids also had an impact on society...worth a look. While the whole film industry has changed & films today can be very diverse. I'll always have a place in my heart for the films of my youth back in that golden age of 80's action Heros !!! Here's a quick list of some Arnie & Sly 'classics' maybe not the best films ever made...but they can't be beat by terms of action & one-liners !!! Pumping Iron, Conan the Barbarian, Terminator,(all) Red Sonja, Commando, Raw Deal, Predator, Running Man, Red Heat, Total Recall, True Lies, End of days, Collateral Damage, (Twins,Jingle All the way) Rocky,(all) Rambo,(all) Cobra, Over the Top, Lock Up, Tango & Cash, Cliffhanger, Demolition Man, The Specialist, Judge Dredd, Assassins, Daylight, Copland, Expendables, Get Carter,(although Michael Caine original is the best!!!) |

| Arnold couldnt act his way outve a paper bag, watch Hercules in New York or some of his pre-Conan stuff, lol. Also his accent was horrible and it took him a long time to really develop in way not to sound ridiculous, thats why most his lines are either Robotic, one liners or mute(Conan and Terminator he hardly spoke).
If Milius manage to shape Arnold, he couldve did the same for Forigno and Columbu, Ben Davidson worked out all Ok, as did Sven, all they had to too do was look mean, they barely had any dialogue(Thorgrim had only facial expressions and grunts)
