| What we want from any artist is a PERSONAL VISION - something distinctive. Well done, Frank, you sure had that, and it changed all our lives. | |

| Sad news, but at least he can rest now. Though I'm sure he'll be turning over in his new grave when the new film comes out. He made fantasy art what it is today. Where did we lose that precious gift? | |

Being interested only in making lots of money means not taking any risk. And not taking risks means: no art, whatsoever. This is not an anti-capitalist rant; it's an anti-obsessive-capitalist rant. Fantasy art is not ONLY a product, it's OVERALL a genre of art. Art serves to inspire and awake people's mind. But today's fantasy art, apparently only serves to idiotize and turning us all uninspired and unoriginal. Definitely, some people got it totally wrong, ain't them, Frank.

IIRC, that's not the first time I've seen that type of mix-up. I'm too lazy to look right now, but doesn't the movie poster (the US version anyway) from Conan also show him holding the Atlantean sword & wearing a curved scabbard?

| Yes and Mighty actually asked Casaro about it. - Quote :

CASARO- Please tell your friend this is artistic license! (laughs) Perhaps he should watch the girl's sword? So, he just copied Frazetta so closely he didn't even think about it. Nah, I do know Frank wasn't perfect; I am not into covering his defects or making up some silly fanboy story to fix the innacuracies. I dislike that (and it's the reason why I dislike any kind of fandom attitudes in general -they are very neurotic). I prefer wonderfully flawled personas. I like Milius cause he is so obviously imperfect, yet his virtues are also so obvious. I always saw Frank limitations, they are very evident to me. Still, I also see he had the magnetism enough to hypnotize and make me dream. His paintings FEEL, they are full of energy and made with a very elegant and refined technique, enough to look powerful and same time aesthethically beautiful. Also, they are fresh and original, since he was the original fountain all the modern imagery has drank from. He was influenced by previous artists, of course, but he was original in the sense he created a personal signature wich had been never seen before, and influenced several subsequent generations. That is a lot, enough to pay my respects to him and feeling a littlebit hurt in my heart knowing he went away in a so miserable way.
